SP1 and SP1a...
For those who don't know, the difference between SP1 and SP1a is that the latter has MS Java Virtual Machine stripped out. The original Windows XP didn't come with MS JVM because of a court ruling following a dispute with Sun Microsystems. Microsoft thought they could put it back in with SP1, but Sun complained and MS bent once again which resulted in the release of SP1a.
MS JVM is based on a very old release of Sun Java so you're advised to install the latest version of Sun's Java Runtime instead.
In short, this means that you should slipstream SP1a unless you're dead set on using backdoor.MS.Java.
The security update for JVM, KB816093, is under investigation. What I can already tell you is that MS have removed the XP version from the Download Center; you can only obtain it from the Windows Update Catalog now.
