....At
the outset of the College foundation, there was no special chair of mathematics.
There was a combined Chair of Physics and Mathematics headed by Doctor
of Physics and Mathematics Roland Vardanyan. Later on, the separate Chair
of Mathematics was established. The first mathematicians at the College
were Candidates of Physics and Mathematics O. Mikaelyan, S. Dalalyan,
V.Darbinyan, and one of the famous faculty members of Yerevan State University
Z.Avetissyan. They spared no effort to make the subject curricula and
develop teaching methods.
In different periods, such well-knownteachers as Doctors of Physics and Mathematics L. Arabajyan, V. Barseghyan (who left the Chair quite recently because of being extremely busy), A. Petrossyan, and others worked here. Each of them did his share for the forming and development of the Chair. Movses Gasparyan and Nouneh Davtyan, the former staff members, contributed to the Chair, too. At present, the Chair staff is rather large. It consists of 12 members, most of which are Candidates of Physics and Mathematics. Smbat Shahinyan, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, is in charge of Chair. He is also the head of the Chair of Theoretical Mechanics training laboratory at the Faculty of Mechanics at YSU. He is a coauthor of a manual. He has published about twenty research articles. Vardan Pilipossyan, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, is a Reader at YSU. He is the author of about ten works and considered to be one the experienced and popular educators of Quantum. Arman Karapetyan, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, is a senior staff scientist at the RA Academy of Sciences Institute of Mathematics. He is the author of an auxiliary manual and 30 research articles. He shares his knowledge with students showing devotion to his profession. Mher Martirossyan, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, assistant of the Chair of Mathematical Analysis at YSU, is the author of a dozen of research articles. He likes his work and tries his best to arouse ardor towards mathematics. Gagik Aghekyan, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, has thoroughly collected and published the sums of the annual contests of the College's gifted students. He is always in search, especially seeking for newer methods to make mathematics more available for students. He is the author of a teachers' manual in geometry. Samvel Abajyan, Candidate of Physics and Mathematics, is a comparatively new teacher at the College. He showed his worth when he was still a schoolboy and became the winner of the 1973 School Olympiad of the USSR. He has natural gifts in mathematics. Gagik Sargssyan has rich pedagogical experience. He has also published a manual in trigonometry and 15 other research works. Azniv Karamyan has been working at the College for four years. Due to her kindness and devotion to the students, she won autho-rity and love among them. Lilit Mazmanyan and Artak Afyan are among the youngest specialists of our school. They are promising and perspective teachers. They have managed to entirely show their worth and professional interests. About 60% of the College alumni take an entrance exam on mathematics. 95% of this number passes their tests successfully. It is natural for the Chair with such high voca-tional and pedagogical potential. Given the shortage of training aids, the Chair members are permanently in search of solving the problem through new supplementary literature, such as collections of sums, teaching manuals, etc. The Chair's teachers, only in the academic year of 2000-2001, made 4 auxiliary teaching manuals, which are of regular help for both the educators and students. ........................ |
