POP QUIZ: Jonathan Davis of Korn

  Korn frontman Jonathan Davis, 32, plays the bagpipes, dates a former porn star and has one of the largest collections of serial killer art in the world. Such are the riches that come with inventing nu-metal and selling more than 20 million albums worldwide. The band just released its sixth, Take a Look in the Mirror, after winning a Grammy for best metal performance and playing the Ozzfest Tour in 2003.

Aidin Vaziri: The first time I met the band, you guys were sleeping in bunk beds. You probably don't do that anymore.
Jonathan Davis: No, not anymore.

AV: Do you miss it?
JD: Sometimes, yeah. It was like camp.

AV: Since then you gave up coke, speed, booze, pot and caffeine.
JD: Everything.

AV: How do you have any fun?
JD: Guns and video games. I guess those are my only vices.

AV: Those are vices?
JD: Well, shooting guns gives me a high so I can deal with life.

AV: Is naked badminton considered a vice?
JD: It's definitely cool. We did that more while we were working on the Untouchables album.

AV: When you put that record out you said you were tired of loud music and screaming.
JD: Yeah.

AV: I guess you changed your mind.
JD: Oh, yeah. There was a lot of stuff going on in my life when I was doing this record that made me want to scream. I don't scream for the sake of screaming. Things just happened that pushed me in that direction.

AV: What made you mad?
JD: Problems with my girl. Problems with my family. Business relationships. Friends. You name it.

AV: Your girlfriend used to do porn. How come no videotapes of you two have found their way onto the Internet?
JD: That's because we don't make any.

AV: Why not?
JD: Because I don't want to see myself fuck.

AV: There is a videotape of you, Marilyn Manson and some girl in bondage. Where could someone find that?
JD: There was a tape made but I don't even know where it is. It was pretty brutal.

AV: I heard you also bite people in your sleep.
JD: Well, it wasn't in my sleep. I just bit people when I was drunk.

AV: But you did sleepwalk.
JD: Sometimes, but that was because I was still drunk.

AV: That sucks.
JD: Yeah.

AV: I see you still have the "HIV" tattoo on your shoulder.
JD: I still have it.

AV: What happens when you go swimming in the pool at the Four Seasons?
JD: I don't go swimming. I don't have that problem. People don't understand what it means. They just see it and think I have HIV. But it's just a constant reminder it's out there. I think everyone should get one.

AV: Duran Duran used to be your favorite band. How do you go from "Rio" to "Dead Bodies Everywhere"?
JD: Dude, I don't know either. My music taste is so eclectic. The other day I was listening to the Xanadu soundtrack. That song "Whenever You're Away From Me" just rocks. And then after that I was listening to Cannibal Corpse.
