Buffon became the world most expensive goalkeeper when he was bought from Parma in 2001. Buffon, 25 years old, made his Serie A debut only 17 years old for Parma against Milan. Since then he has become stronger and better. Gianluigi is also a first team regular for Italy and participated in the 2002 World Cup. He earned his Italy debut only 19 years old. In his first season for Juventus he had a difficult start and made a few errors, but gradually he found back to his best form and helped Juventus win the championship. Last season Buffon had a magic season and played excellent for Juventus. He was awarded the best goalkeeper and the most valuable player awards by UEFA this summer. Most people agree that Buffon is the best goalkeeper in the world.

Ciro Ferrara is one of the most experienced italian defenders. He started his career in Napoli were he was teamate with Maradona. He won the Serie A title two times, and became captain when Maradonna left the club. In 1994 he was bought by Juventus and he immediately had success. Ferrara got a seriuos injury in the 1998-99 season, which put him out for 6 months, but Ferrara has proved he is the same. Ferrara is now 36 years old, and this will be his last season before retiring. A few seasons ago the press thought Ferrara was finished, but he has had two of his best seasons ever and found back to his best form.

Alessio Tacchinardi grew up in Bergamo playing for Atalanta. He came to Juventus in 1994, 19 years old. Alessio Tacchinardi is a midfielder that also can be succesfully used as a libero. He got his debut on the Italy squad in 1996 when he played as a libero. Alessio Tacchinardi, born 1975, has much experience behind him although his young age. He played many games in the first seasons at Juventus, but he wasn't a first team regular because he had some of the greatest midfielders in the world in front of him. After Juventus sold Deschamps Tacchinardi became a first team regular. After many good seasons behind him at Juventus, the 2001-2002 season was a huge dissapointment for him. He lost his place in the squad and wasn't called to the World Cup. Luckily Tacchinardi found back to his best form and made excellent performances last season.

Paolo Montero was the greatest surprise of the 96-97 season, when he was bought by Juventus and played very well. He begun his career in Penarol and he was bought by Atalanta 20 years old. With Atalanta he played both in serie A and serie B, and he got called in to the Uruguay national team. He was bought by Juventus to form the central defence along with Ferrara. Many people doubted that Montero was good enough for Juventus, but Marcello Lippi who coached him at Atalanta had great faith in him. Paolo Montero has been one of the best Juventus players since then and together with Ferrara he probably forms one the best defence duos in the world. Montero in now one of the few untouchables in the Juventus squad. He has only one weakness, his temper.

The young giant Tudor came from Hajduk Split in the summer of 1998 and became a huge success. Although his young age Igor Tudor has already many caps, but he missed the 2002 World Cup due to injury. Tudor is a tall player that can play both in defence and in midfield. He has had many serious injuries the two last seasons, but still he scored many important goals when he was available. Tudor is now one of the most important players in the squad.

Fabrizio Miccoli was signed by Juventus from Ternana in 2002. Miccoli ws immediately loaned out to Perugia, something that proved to be a clever move. After having been considered a talented striker for many years, Miccoli got his breakthrough last season with Perugia. Miccoli was one of the best players in the Serie A and conquered a place in the Italy squad. Miccoli is often compared to Romario. He is very short, extremely fast and an excellent goalscorer. He is one of the future stars of Italian football.

Alessandro Del Piero is the wonderboy of Italian football. Juventus bought Del Piero from Padova in 1993 and he always scored when he got the chance on the A-team. In the 1994-95 season he played so well that Juventus decided to sell Baggio who had been the star of Juventus for many years. Alex Del Piero got great resposibilities on him the following season beeing the new number 10 of the squad. He got his international breakthrough in the 1995-96 season leading Juventus to victory in the Champions League scoring fantastic goals. He also became a first team regular for Italy and he is now one of the best players in the world. Del Piero has great teqnique, vision and shots that make history. After his greatest season ever for Juve in the 1997-98 season, he suffered 6 terribile months losing the Champions league, being a big dissapointment in the World Cup and getting injured in november, an injury who put him out for the rest of the season. After he came back from injury he spent much time to recover his best form. In the last two seasons Del Piero has played very well and scored many gaols for Juventus. Del Piero scored his Serie A goal number 100 last season. He has extended his contract until 2008, which means that the captain will end his career at Juventus.

Pavel Nedved was bought from Lazio in 2001. In his first three months at Juventus he played very bad and failed to score. Luckily all this changed and now everyone in Italy agree that he has been the best midfielder in the Serie A the last two seasons. Nedved has scored important goals and made lovely assists for Juventus. When Nedved came to Lazio in 1996 he was a talented Czech midfielder, but now after great success in Italy he is among the best midfielders in the world. Nedved showed great class in last seasons Champions League, and was therefore given the best midfielder award by UEFA this summer. Everyone discovered how important Nedved is for Juventus when he missed the Champions League final against Milan due to suspension.

Chimenti was signed last summer from Lecce. Chimenti was a first team regular for four seasons (one with Roma and the last three with Lecce), but accepted to move to Juventus to be the reserve of Gianluigi Buffon. Juventus picked very talented and experienced Chimenti for the job. Chimenti showed his class in the few games he played last season. With Chimenti on the bench we can feel safe that we are well covered if Buffon should miss a game.

Mark Iuliano was bought from Salernitana in 1996. Mark Iuliano is a tall, fast and good tackling defender. He can be used as right, central or left defender. Most people hadn't expected that Iuliano was going to play much, but he has turned out to be a very important player for Juventus since joining them. His speed and tackling abilities do that not many players go past him. Mark Iuliano got his breakthrough in the 1997-98 season when he played regularly due to the injuries to Ferrara and Montero. Mark Iuliano played very well in the European Championships in 2000. He also made appearences in last summers World Cup.

Birindelli was bought from Empoli and he has been a useful player for many seasons. Birindelli has great speed and a terrifying long distance shot. He regularly plays right back, but he can also play as central defender and right winger. Birindelli starts from the bench every season, but he always gets many opportunities to be useful to the squad.

Argentine midfielder Mauro Camoranesi was bought by Juventus last summer from Verona. The creative midfielder has had great success since his arrival in Italy and played well for Verona. In the 2001-2002 season Camoranesi was noticed as a talented midfielder and Juventus brought him to the squad. Camoranesi was the best reinforcement last season and impressed everyone. Trapattoni convinced the winger to play for Italy and the winger is now a first team regular for Italy. Camoranesi likes to play on the right wing, but he can also play in support of the attackers or as a striker.

Trezeguet was bought in april 2000, before he scored the crucial golden goal for France in the European Championships final against Italy. Trezeguet was born in Argentina, but moved to France when he was a teenager. He started his professional career in Europe with Monaco. In Monaco he did very well, scoring many goals. In France they called him "Bati-France", the Batistuta of France. With great performances Trezeguet convinced the Juventus directors to sell Inzaghi, after Trezeguet finished the 2000-2001 season very well. This proved to be the right choice and Trezeguet became the Serie A top goalscorer in the 2001-2002 season with 24 goals. Last season Trezeguet suffered many injuries and missed many games. He still scored almost everytime he played.

Stephen Appiah is a rising star in international football. The young Ghanian midfielder was signed from Parma this summer and has impressed everyone at Juventus. Appiah is considered to be the new Edgar Davids and will battle the Dutch midfielder for a place in the squad. Appiah came to Italy and Udinese when he was only sixteen years old. He played a few seasons there before moving to Parma. Appiah never had any luck with Parma and was loaned out to Brescia last season. Appiah had his breakthrough season at Brescia and scored 7 goals. The new Juventus midfielder is considered to be one of the best midfielders in the Serie A.

Signed from Bari in the summer of 1999, Zambrotta is considered one of the biggest prospects in Italian football. He is comfortable in almost any position on the pitch, able to play on the right or left and as confident going forward as he is in defence. Zambrotta has had excellent first seasons for Juventus and he is now a first team regular in the Italy squad. Zambrotta was one of the best italian players in last summers World Cup. Last season Lippi changed his position from right winger to left back. This proved a clever move as Juventus finally found the attacking left back type they had searched for so long.

Thuram came to Juventus from Parma in 2001. Juventus had tried yo buy the strong defender many times before and finally suceeded. Thuram played for Monaco before he came to Parma. In Italy he has had great success and he is now one of the best defenders of the world. He became World Champion in 1998 and European Champion in 2000 with France. In the first season at Juventus Thuram had many problems. Specially in the beginning he didn't play well, but he grew together with the rest of the team during the season. Lilian prefers to play as central defender, while Lippi always use him as right back. This caused some arguments, but everything seems to be sorted out now. Thuram played much better for Juventus last season.

Nicola Legrottaglie was the first Juventus signing this summer. It long looked like he would move to Roma, but Juventus snatched him from their rivals. Legrottaglie started his career as a midfielder and played for various clubs in the lower divisions before moving to Chievo. Legrottaglie got his breakthrough last season when he played a fantastic season for Chievo. The central defender soon conquered a place as a first team regular for Italy as well. Legrottaglie is a tall and strong defender with excellent heading abilities. The 26 year old rejuvenates the ageeing Juventus defence.

Many Italian football insiders are hailing Juventus' Nigerian youngster Benjamin Onwuachi. The 19 year-old striker came in as a substitute and scored in his debut in the Coppa Italia game against Siena this season. The striker currently plays for the Juventus Primavera team, but has had some senior experience in pre-season friendlies and got his official debut against Siena. Some experts think that he's better than his good friend Martins. And that he is the modern footballer. Less physically strong, but blessed with much better technique. The Nigerian striker was bought from Reggiana this summer and has had a magnificent start at the club. He scored one goal in the pre-season friendly against the Juventus A-team, and he scored incredibly 8 goals in his first 2 matches for the Juventus Primavera side. He also managed to score on his official debut for the club.
