  Pathology Department History



   Pathology Department of the National Institute of Health Ministry of Health of Armenia was founded in 1962.
   From the day of its foundation up to now the department head remain Prof. Alexander G. Allaverdyan, also the head of the Association of Pathologists of Armenia for many years.
   Department based at the scientific-medical center "Emergency", stay as the advisory center for pathological service of Armenia and for about 15 medical centers of the Yerevan, capital of Armenia.
   Physicians from many regions of the former USSR had been undertaking the courses of clinical morphology since 1963. The chair released 10 Professors in Pathology and 20 Philosophy Doctor's degree.
   The main directions which had been studying at the chair are the problems of the professional pathology, toxicology, urology, the lung pathology, the pathology of the central nervous system and the heart diseases.
   From the recent research works which were done at the department the most medical and social importance has the researches on the investigation of the mortality as the main public health state indicator in republic of Armenia. The different ages were involved in this investigation and the prenatal, infant, maternal and hospital mortality rate had been noted.
   In the present there are two different type of researches taking under supervision of Prof. Alexander G. Allaverdyan: the first one concerning ethiology factors of the sadden cardiac death and theirs connection with coronal vessels pathology - the scientific theme of Boris G. Balayan.
   And the second one is cooperation with American corporation ARTANN LABS, and concerning soft tissue biophysical properties of the prostatic gland with different types of benign prostatic hyperplasia - the scientific theme of Andrew V. Papyan.
